The Portland Climate Action Plan is pushing the city through transformation. The work in the environmental and sustainability field has evolved over the years.
Due to health concerns, sea rise, access to water, land use, cities around the world have initiated efforts to mitigate their impacts on the environment.
In 2016, the Portland Climate Action Plan was recognized as the best Climate Action Plan in the world. Portland, in the state of Oregon, edged ahead of Buenos Aires, Cape Town, and Paris.
The motives for why cities commit to take climate action may be different, how they end up doing the work as time goes on changes them.
Portland’s Climate Action Plan
In this episode of Climate Front Line, we engage with Michele Crim. She is the Chief Sustainability Officer at the City of Portland. One of the leaders who has influenced the Portland Climate Action Plan for several years.
Listen in as we deconstruct sustainability. She tells us about how the work has changed, and outlines the importance of youth from historically underserved backgrounds. She also elevates the importance of understanding history before engaging in action. We change the climate narrative.
Michele comes into this work as Geologist and Environmental Scientists. Listen in as she leans into the conversation of the history, and the transformational journey cities must embark on.
